About Barbara
Barbara Trainin Blank is a freelance writer and editor with roughly five decades of experience spanning a wide range of subjects and publications. As president of Blank Page Writing, she brings a steadfast commitment to excellence in communication, regardless of the client, project, or genre. A native of New York City who now lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, she earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and psychology from Barnard College of Columbia University, where she reported for the student newspaper, graduated with honors in sociology, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She later pursued courses in journalism at Temple University. Her byline has appeared in outlets such as the Montgomery Sentinel, Hadassah, Health, New Social Worker, Washington Jewish Week, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, The Forward, and The Burg. She specializes in feature writing on the performing arts, particularly theater previews and reviews, as well as social work, the social sciences, health and medicine, and religion. She also assists individual and organization with publicity and writes grant proposals for nonprofits. Today she contributes theater coverage to BroadwayWorld-DC, Maryland Theatre Guide, culturespotMC.org, and the Montgomery County Sentinel. Blank is an accomplished author and playwright. Her four nonfiction books include What to Do about Mama?: A Guide to Caring for Aging Family Members, also released as an audiobook, and Mary Sachs: Merchant Princess, a biography of a pioneering Harrisburg entrepreneur and philanthropist. Since 2000 she has increasingly focused on plays -- many of which have been given stage readings or productions or appeared in publications. She has completed two novels, and belongs to ramatists Guild and several other theater and playwriting associations groups. Her community involvements include Bikur Cholim -- which provides services to the sick and homebound --and a Holocaust committee, sponsoring educational programs through presentations of survivors.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, dedication, and perseverance. I have found my passion, take pride in all of my accomplishments, remain eager to learn new things, and to improve.. My special interests in the performing arts, dance, cultivating friendships, and reading also enrich my life and work. (should I mention family?)
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I have received is to start each day anew without looking back at failures or obstacle; to believe in myself and advocate for myself, yet be humble enough to learn from clients and others I come into contact with; and to strive to make a difference every day.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women to be consider every professional opportunity -- without prejudice. . To remember to balance honesty with positivity as you send your vision of the world and to lead by example. mine is an industry with many changes and challenges, so don't be discouraged.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I see a great opportunity in continuing to write and share my publishing journey with others, bringing them happiness and joy through my writing experiences.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, honesty, and kindness are the values I hold most dear. I strive to bring positivity to others and to see the brighter side of things, while remaining goal-driven and detail oriented.
