Her Story

About Barbrah

I have been working in project management and agile methodologies for about 8 years now, starting as a Project Coordinator in my home country of Uganda before transitioning to my current role as a Scrum Master. I got into this field because I was passionate about Agile. After completing a Google Project Management certificate, I fell in love with the idea of becoming a Scrum Master first, before becoming a project manager. In my current role, I facilitate scrum meetings including daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, sprint planning, and retrospectives. I collaborate with teams to ensure projects are aligned and work closely with product owners to make sure backlogs are healthy and ready with clear acceptance criteria. I pride myself on being a good servant leader who communicates effectively with my team. Recently, I worked on a project for Toyota America where I served as a leader. During my free time, I volunteer as a Scrum Master and Agile Project Manager, helping teams in my community learn Agile and Scrum methodologies. I have been helping many people in my community become Scrum Masters.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My husband, who is a data analyst, has been mentoring me a lot on many things. He was the one who told me to go for the project management certificate, which really set me on this path. His guidance has been instrumental in my career development.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice would be to stay out, be willing to learn continuously, and focus on developing strong communication and leadership skills, especially in project management, in my field. I would help and mentor anyone who comes to me. I've been helping people in my community here to become Scrum Masters, and I would do the same for any young woman looking to enter this field.
