Q

What do you attribute your success to?

My faith in God has been the key to everything I've accomplished. You know, through all the obstacles I've had to go through, especially dealing with depression and medicine changes, I learned to depend on the Lord. A lot of times my family wasn't supportive of me, and I had to be by myself, so I had to depend on the Lord a lot. My faith has brought me through so many things and just made my faith stronger. Having that higher power to depend on eliminates a lot of stress and worry. Now that I'm more stabilized with my medication and the doctors are working with me, I think I'll be able to complete this program. Praise God, finally! My father also inspired me - he was a computer programmer who worked with those old auxiliary computers with vacuum tubes, and I got my love for computers from him. My first husband was supportive too. But ultimately, it's been my faith that's held me and helped me make it through.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell them to have an active prayer life. Prayer can help you be centered into what you're doing, you know, having a good faith and depending on a higher power. He does help you be stable in what you're doing. If you have a higher power to depend on, it eliminates a lot of stress and worry. I think having a good prayer life and a good faith is so important as you're starting out in this field.
