Her Story
About Becca
I've been in my current position as Development and Communications Manager for a little over a year now, almost a year and a half. The organization I work for is on the younger side, just shy of a decade old, which puts me in a really cool position because although there are established rhythms and responsibilities, I also get to cultivate some of my own systems and approaches to things. A typical day looks like either engaging with donors or potential funders, or speaking out to our current community that we work with, whether that's alumni who have been through our program, current donors, funders, or just simply our community of volunteers who provide services for the organization. We also work in partnership with several organizations throughout Durham, and I handle a lot of those relationships as well. I have always liked working with people and poor people, and even when I was away from nonprofit work, that ethos fled through who I was. I'm really excited to be doing this work that has always been where I felt my heart was.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Having a real connection to the space and my community is important to me, and having a clean place to live and respecting the space that we live is important to me. Supporting the organization I currently work for is more important to me than my own self. I have always liked working with people and poor people, and even when I was away from nonprofit work, that ethos fled through who I was. I really enjoy spending quality time with friends that I love and family that I love.
