Her Story

About Becky

My career journey is an interesting story because I fell into human resources by accident. I was interviewing for a totally different career at a company, and after I met with their VP of HR for my interview, she reached back out to me to say they were going to promote someone internally for that role I was interested in, but asked if I had ever thought of a career in human resources. Since that point is where I felt like my professional journey went from having jobs to having that career, a true career. The fact that somebody can notice something in you that maybe you didn't see in yourself, and being able to award you an opportunity, is something I like to be able to help other people with. Now I serve in the insurance industry helping to guide professionals through coaching and career development, working with both leaders and emerging leaders, helping connect them to resources and navigating through the plateaus and pitfalls that can arise during career growth. I stay grounded through my passion projects around mental performance and mindset coaching, which I've explored as ways to help myself stay grounded and work through personal challenges I've had in my life, including losing a child. I've done a lot of side exploration and research and education on mental performance mindset, and what I can do to control what I can control so that I can continue to be there for other people too.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think for me, there is a spiritual component that keeps me grounded. That is something, a relationship that I have worked on throughout my life, so I think that spirituality piece is important. And then I think it's back to my mom's advice - it's surrounding myself with those people that, you know, I kind of refer to it sometimes as, who's my personal board of directors? Like, if I were to select a board of directors, who would I want sitting in those chairs that I can continue to rely on for support, for encouragement, sometimes just to push me, because sometimes you just need that little extra push. So it's those people. You just come to appreciate it differently the more you go through in life.
