About Belinda

I founded Women Are Wild (WOW) 9 years ago, where I challenge women to do something they've never done before in their community - get out and work, and it doesn't matter how you get there, as long as you get there. I use my motorcycle and my club as my tool. Through this work, I've built relationships with 50 state nursing homes, a school in Garland serving 10 autism students, and organize a major cancer parade in Fort Worth for survivors and those battling cancer. During the holiday season, 25 ladies and I dress up in Santa Claus dresses to bring joy to our community. I work in the medical field as a medication nurse, which opened my eyes to how residents in nursing homes are often forgotten - some are transferred to facilities and no one ever comes to see them, and many never go back outdoors. I wanted to bring life inside and show them what was on the outside. My work with autism began when I met a marketing manager whose son had autism, and I realized I was illiterate about the condition. I took classes to learn about the different types of autism, then came back on social media to apologize to the world if I had ever offended anyone and to educate others. I've been featured on the Drew Barrymore Show and received the Hometown Hero Award from the state of Texas with Clarice Tinsley. People and corporations partner with me as reach-out centers to provide donations for our programs supporting cancer patients, autism families, the elderly, and the homeless. We work with No More Violence, a program for people who have lost loved ones to violence, in the Fair Park area of Dallas.

Ten minutes with Belinda

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I tell them, marketing is very hard. Never, never, never, never go in with a negative mind thinking. What could you have done? When you go, you already know in your mind, you know what corporations and people can do for you, you let them know what you can do for them. And things work hand in hand. And you may not get big things, but never leave out with nothing.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Right now, I am working on getting ready for a cancer event that's gonna be here in Dallas. I'm working very hard because I'm learning that cancer doesn't just affect the women, it affects the men, it affects animals, it affects children. So I'm working on an event this year where I'm not just focused on women, I'm focused on those categories - the children, the women, the men, and the animals. I'm promoting and gonna have corporate America come at me, with some corporate backing that helps support me with events. We're gonna focus on the ones who are survivors, the ones that are going through it, and the ones who have lost someone. Those three things are powerful things that some people understand and some people don't understand. If we can get more information out to them to go get checked, what to look for, keep ourselves aware, those are things that I'm willing to do, because I lost a sister at a young age with breast cancer, and I lost my mom with cancer. One of the great things that I do, some people may not think that it's great, is I shave my head bald. So, I don't wear hair under my extensions. I have a flat extension. And with my mom, I kept the tradition going. What I do is I show them that beauty doesn't come on top. It's skin deep. You're beautiful on the inside as well as you on the outside.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Loyalty is very valuable to me, and that's been truthful, because I interview many people to educate myself and get knowledge, and I feel like your word is all you have, and once you give up a negative word, you don't have anything. So my values are being loyal to the world to extend back, so I would be able to work off of it.
