Her Interview

Ten minutes with Belinda

01What do you attribute your success to?

I am the eldest of seven siblings. I've taken on so many roles. I've always been a problem solver at a very early age, and it has transitioned into my career. Having that mindset, that analytical skill at a very young age and being able to figure out what's the next move, or what to do, to always have different plans in place for any crisis. That's what led me to pursue this career. Raised in Jamaica where we didn't have certain necessities, and coming to America where there's a whole lot of opportunity, the sky's the limit.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My professor told me that my altitude depends on my attitude in life.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Follow your goals, follow your intuition. And don't listen to noise. Just follow your dreams, do your research. And be around peers who are going to motivate you. I listen to Elon Musk's stories, all these millionaires and billionaires' stories, and see what they've been through, and that's what motivates me and keeps me grounded. I don't listen to noise, I just listen to these billionaires who have been successful, who have paved the way, who have gone through a lot, and that has motivated me to never quit. I don't bring my plans to others, I just sit down and analyze it and share it with my mentor.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenge is to get people to understand how important compliance is. Getting people to understand that prevention is so much better than having a crisis, or having to pay for a significant crisis when it could have been prevented. So bringing awareness to compliance and the benefits of it, that's my goal.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Respect. Earning it and giving it. I'm big on respect wherever I go.
