Benita earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California, Riverside, and is currently completing a Master’s in Equity along with a Single Subject Credential in Spanish Language and Literature at National University. She leverages her education to create inclusive, culturally responsive classrooms, using innovative tools like built-in classroom microphones for student presentations and interactive reading activities with the “Chevere” Spanish series. Her approach encourages active participation and confidence among her students at all levels of Spanish.

Beyond her classroom, Benita is committed to community involvement and civic engagement. She has expressed plans to run for councilwoman in her district in 2028 as a member of the Democratic Party, reflecting her dedication to serving and uplifting her community. Known for her perseverance, enthusiasm, and love of teaching, Benita continues to inspire her students and colleagues while fostering a rich, multicultural learning environment.

I attribute my success to a combination of setting clear, achievable goals and maintaining strong faith. By defining what I want to accomplish and trusting the process, I am able to stay focused, motivated, and resilient through challenges.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to remember that success isn’t just about how much you know—it’s also about how much you care. Building genuine relationships, showing empathy, and investing in people are just as important as technical skills or expertise.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is navigating student behavior and understanding gender dynamics in the classroom. These factors can significantly impact learning outcomes, but they also present opportunities to create more inclusive, supportive, and effective educational environments.
