Her Story

About Berenice

Berenice Rodriguez has dedicated her career to community activism and nonprofit leadership. She began her work in high school around 2010-2011 in response to immigration policy changes in Georgia, partnering with organizations on public policy. After earning her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University as a Jack Kent Cook Foundation Young Scholar, she worked as a registered lobbyist on local, state, and federal policy. She then completed training to become accredited by the Department of Justice to practice immigration law, providing services for several years including during the initial Trump administration and COVID. Transitioning to electoral work, both nonpartisan and partisan, she now serves as State Director at We Are Casa, where her role encompasses policy, legal, and electoral efforts. She is a member of the Latinx Alliance and attributes her success to community impact, advising others not to fear starting over or pivoting in their careers.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Berenice

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to community. A lot of what I do and how I perceive the work really goes back to community and how it affects them. It pushes me to continue doing this work even when it is hard and emotionally taxing, because if it makes a difference in someone's life then it merits continuing to move forward.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice is don't be afraid to start over. It's okay to pivot if you need to. I don't think I've ever been in a position for more than 4 years, and that is intentional because I want to continue to keep pushing myself and keep learning new things.
