Her Story

About Beth

Beth McCamey Harris serves as National Sales Director at Planned Administrators, Inc.® (PAI), a national third-party administrator (TPA) and sister company to Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina that provides innovative healthcare benefit solutions to group employers across the United States. In her role, Harris focuses on driving sales strategy and developing customized solutions that help employers navigate the evolving healthcare landscape through self-funded benefit plans, direct primary care options, and cost-effective approaches designed to deliver better outcomes and improved value. With 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, including 24 years in underwriting before transitioning into sales leadership, she brings extensive expertise in risk management, benefits strategy, and client relationship development.

Before joining PAI, Harris built a distinguished career in underwriting and insurance operations, including more than 12 years with Companion Life Insurance Company and over a decade with BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. Throughout her underwriting career, she managed complex risk portfolios, supported organizational growth, and developed a deep understanding of healthcare benefits and employer needs. Earlier in her career, Harris served nearly four years in the United States Air Force as a security police specialist and later gained valuable business experience through approximately seven years in mobile home sales and service management, where she developed strong leadership, customer service, and operational skills.

Harris earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and later completed her Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Management and Leadership from Webster University. She is a member of the Healthcare Administrators Association and Goliath Sales Strategies and remains actively involved in community service through the South Carolina Department of Public Health Community Cancer Action Committee. She also serves as a state leader and Face-to-Face Coordinator for the Young Survival Coalition’s Palmetto Pals program, supporting individuals affected by breast cancer. Harris attributes her success to resilience, determination, and the belief instilled by her father that she could accomplish anything through hard work and commitment. Guided by values of integrity, honesty, responsibility, organization, and communication, she continues to inspire others by encouraging young women entering the industry to embrace continuous learning, think creatively, and bring innovative solutions to a rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Beth

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience, determination, and the drive to create a better future for myself. Growing up with limited resources and experiencing challenges early in life motivated me to work hard, set goals, and pursue opportunities that would allow me to build a different path. I was inspired by my desire to achieve more than what I had seen growing up and developed a strong belief that perseverance, dedication, and a commitment to personal growth could help me overcome obstacles and reach my goals.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received came from my father, who taught me that I could accomplish anything I set my mind to. His belief in my abilities gave me the confidence to pursue my goals, overcome challenges, and continue growing both personally and professionally. I carry that mindset with me throughout my career, knowing that determination, hard work, and a commitment to learning can open doors and create opportunities for success.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering the industry to commit to continuous learning and remain open to new ideas and opportunities. Take the time to understand the business, challenge traditional thinking, and do not be afraid to think outside the box. In an ever-changing environment, creativity, adaptability, and the ability to develop innovative solutions are valuable skills that can set you apart and help you make a meaningful impact in your career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in the healthcare benefits industry today is addressing rising healthcare costs while finding innovative ways to reduce spending and demonstrate measurable value. Organizations are increasingly looking for solutions that improve affordability, transparency, and outcomes while maintaining quality care. A key opportunity is helping employers understand the advantages of self-funded healthcare models and providing data-driven strategies that create long-term savings. By educating groups on alternative approaches and offering customized solutions beyond traditional insurance models, we can help employers take greater control of their healthcare expenses while improving benefits for their employees.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my professional and personal life are integrity, honesty, responsibility, organization, and communication. I believe these principles are the foundation for building trust, creating strong relationships, and achieving long-term success. By staying accountable, communicating openly, and approaching every commitment with honesty and professionalism, I strive to make a positive impact on the people I work with and the communities I serve.
