Her Story

About Beth

Beth Johnson is a seasoned Founder and Business Operations Partner Consultant specializing in helping contractors, trade professionals, and small-business owners build efficient systems and sustainable operations. As the founder of Firefly VA Services, she brings more than 25 years of experience across construction, interior design, public and private-sector organizations, and education. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from the University of Minnesota and has further developed her expertise through certifications as an Online Business Manager (OBM) and Director of Operations (DOO). Her diverse professional background allows her to bring a practical, comprehensive perspective to the operational challenges facing growing businesses.

In her role as Founder and Business Operations Partner Consultant, Johnson works closely with solopreneurs, contractors, and trade business owners to strengthen the foundations of their companies. She applies a five-step Blueprint Method focused on strategic planning, project management, systems development, and delegation, helping clients move away from managing every task themselves and toward leading their businesses more effectively. Her approach emphasizes implementation and accountability, as she remains actively involved in helping clients put strategies into practice, refine processes, establish stronger systems, and navigate operational challenges. Drawing on her construction experience, Johnson approaches business operations much like building a home: establishing a solid foundation and intentionally developing each component creates the structure necessary for long-term growth.

Johnson has earned recognition for her professional contributions, including Business of the Year in 2024, Pacesetter of 2023, and a Who’s Who Award in 2026. She maintains active professional connections through Network Build Grow in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Inner Ops Circle led by Natalie Gingrich, and Alignable of the Low Country. Authenticity, consistency, meaningful relationships, and community are central to her professional philosophy. Beyond her consulting work, Johnson volunteers monthly with the Citadel Foundation’s Blue Shirt Army, where she mentors parents. Through her work as a consultant, speaker, and facilitator, she is committed to helping business owners gain clarity, strengthen their operations, and build businesses that provide both structure and room for continued growth.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Beth

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my children, who have always been my greatest source of motivation. I want to show them that they can pursue anything they set their minds to when they approach life with passion, authenticity, and confidence in who they are. Watching them make their own decisions has reinforced my belief that success comes from staying true to yourself and finding purpose in what you do. As they have grown, my role has evolved from leading them to simply guiding and supporting them, reminding them that their lives are theirs to shape. I strive to lead by example and demonstrate that with authenticity, dedication, and passion, you can build a fulfilling and successful life in whatever path you choose.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to love what you do. When you genuinely enjoy your work and feel passionate about the impact you are making, it becomes easier to stay motivated, overcome challenges, and continue growing. I believe that finding work that aligns with who you are and what you value creates a stronger foundation for both professional success and personal fulfillment.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering my industry is to listen carefully and have an opinion. Take the time to learn from the people around you, ask thoughtful questions, and understand different perspectives, but do not be afraid to contribute your own ideas. Your voice and perspective have value, and confidence comes from being willing to listen, learn, and speak up when you have something meaningful to add.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is that it remains largely male-dominated, and women with extensive experience, knowledge, and strong emotional intelligence are not always recognized or valued equally. At the same time, I see this as an opportunity for women to continue demonstrating the value of diverse perspectives, thoughtful leadership, and effective communication. By bringing our expertise and unique strengths to the table with confidence, we can help create greater opportunities for women and contribute to a more inclusive and effective industry.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity is the value that matters most to me, both professionally and personally. I believe in being genuine, staying true to who I am, and leading with honesty and integrity in every interaction. Being authentic allows me to build meaningful relationships, earn trust, and approach challenges with confidence while encouraging others to do the same.
