01What do you attribute your success to?

I think staying open to new opportunities has been the key to my success. As a high school graduate, I went to college thinking I was going to be an elementary school education teacher, and that's not where I've landed, and I really believe that that's from working with my leaders through my career to hone in those business skills and network with others who have been successful in their careers and finding what's worked for them, what hasn't. Just staying open to what the next path might be. I landed in my current role not really by chance, but it wasn't something that I would have gone for myself. I had a leader push me to apply for it, and it ended up being probably the best. It's leaders that have recognized that skill set and helped me find opportunities that maybe I wouldn't have considered for myself.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Stay open to exploring different roles and pathways, as the insurance industry offers a wide range of entry points—from sales and leadership to training, instructional design, underwriting, and process management. Focus on building transferable skills and seek out mentors who can help you navigate opportunities and grow your career over time.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

One of the biggest opportunities in the field is its wide range of roles across functions—including training, knowledge management, process design, leadership, marketing, underwriting, and more—allowing professionals from diverse backgrounds to find a strong fit. This flexibility also creates unique pathways, such as leveraging medical expertise in areas like life underwriting, where specialized knowledge can add significant value.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Entering into insurance specifically, there's sales, there is training facilitation, instructional design, knowledge management for the knowledge base that we use, and then process and procedure, and then, of course, leadership opportunities over all of those areas. And that's just really a snapshot based on the current role that I'm in. The insurance industry has so much to offer. In my opinion, there's communication and marketing, accounting, and any field, pretty much, that you can think of, we've got a spot for someone. Even the medical field, our life underwriting uses those with medical background and expertise. So, I think we can find a spot for just about anyone here.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is the one that comes top of mind for me. You know, doing what we say we're gonna do, and doing it the right way. We serve a large client base, and everything that we do really has to be focused back on our clients. Are we delivering the promise that we've set forth to them? So, you know, integrity, building trust, I think are the top for me.
