Her Story

About Bethany

Bethany Saint Clair is an accomplished change manager, engineer, entrepreneur, consultant, and strategic leader whose career has been defined by transformation across both technical and organizational environments. She began her career in engineering and digital transformation, helping organizations transition toward connected, data driven systems and develop innovative technology solutions. In 2020, she expanded her focus to organizational transformation through diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives, applying her technical expertise and people centered leadership approach to drive meaningful and sustainable change across complex, global organizations.

Throughout her career, Bethany has worked across engineering, information technology, change management, leadership development, and DEIB. At OpenText, a global organization operating across 65 countries, she led significant DEIB transformation efforts and helped establish a global strategy, programs, and infrastructure that engaged thousands of employees. At PacificSource Health Plans, she developed the organization's formal change management plan to support HR reorganizations and large scale technology implementations. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering earned in 1997 and an Executive MBA completed in January 2025. Her professional development also includes Prosci Change Management certification and numerous additional certifications focused on leadership, inclusion, and equity. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence Engineering.

One of Bethany's most meaningful accomplishments is her nearly 30 years of service with the National Society of Black Engineers and her long standing commitment to community empowerment. She is particularly proud of her 18 years of volunteer service with Renaissance 21, where she has helped activate and support young changemakers pursuing opportunities in STEAM fields. Through this work, she has contributed to programs designed to empower young people from underserved communities and foster greater confidence, leadership, and self esteem. Bethany's unique combination of engineering expertise, change management experience, DEIB leadership, and commitment to service enables her to connect technology, people, and organizational strategy to create lasting and inclusive impact.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Bethany

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to determination, hard work, and the support of my community. I believe that perseverance and a strong work ethic are essential to achieving meaningful goals, but I also recognize that no one succeeds alone. The encouragement, guidance, and support of the people around me have played an important role in my growth and accomplishments.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to read the room, recognize where I am valued and appreciated, and pursue opportunities that align with what I genuinely enjoy doing. While financial success is important, I believe it is equally important to find fulfillment in my work because we spend such a significant portion of our lives doing it. Choosing a career that brings purpose and enjoyment ultimately leads to a more rewarding and meaningful professional life.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to remember that you are not alone, and that challenges are not necessarily a reflection of your abilities or potential. When things feel difficult, recognize that systemic barriers can sometimes make the path harder, and do not hesitate to seek support, guidance, and mentorship. Building a strong network and surrounding yourself with people who understand and support you can make a meaningful difference in navigating challenges and advancing your career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is encouraging empathy and compassion at the highest levels of leadership, where these qualities can have a significant impact on organizational culture and decision-making. At the same time, there are tremendous opportunities emerging through artificial intelligence and other evolving technologies. I also see a growing opportunity to emphasize and strengthen essential soft skills, such as communication, empathy, collaboration, and emotional intelligence, which are increasingly important for effective leadership and long-term success.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me, both personally and professionally, are sustainability, fairness, and community. I believe in creating a positive and lasting impact by treating people with respect, advocating for fairness, and contributing to the well-being of the communities around me. I bring these values together through what I think of as leading with love, approaching my work and relationships with compassion, authenticity, and a genuine desire to make a difference.
