About Betsy

Betsy Jimenez serves as Clinic Supervisor at a Federally Qualified Health Center, a primary care center that assists patients without insurance using grants. She spent 11 years working on the clinical side of the medical field before returning to administration, her original career path, which positioned her well for leadership roles given her combined clinical and administrative expertise. She notes that she had no mentors and achieved her progress independently. In her professional approach, she prioritizes compassion, leading by example rather than giving orders, and supporting the growth of both patients and staff within the organization. Her core values include integrity through honesty, ethics, and consistency; empathy by understanding others' perspectives; respect for all regardless of role or background; vision with a clear sense of purpose; and effective communication through active listening and open dialogue.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I always try to tell people to be compassionate about what you do. Leadership's not about just giving orders, it's about leading by example and being able to be the leader to help everyone. Also in different ways, not just the patients that we receive, also the people that works with you, you want to make sure that they also get the opportunity to grow within the organization, and that they see that if you can do it, they can also do it.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I have to say, integrity, just by being honest, ethical, and consistent. It's very important for me. Empathy, because I utilize this at work, just understanding and valuing the perspectives and feelings of others. Respect and vision. Treating everyone with respect, regarding their role and background or opinions. And for vision, having a clear sense of purpose and direction. Communication, listening actively, making sure we're sharing clearly, and encouraging with an open communication.
