Betty Akamani is a Research Analyst at INCCRRA based in Carbondale, Illinois, with extensive experience in managing research and evaluation projects across their full lifecycle. Her work centers on survey development, data collection, and both quantitative and qualitative analysis, ensuring that research instruments and findings meet high standards of quality and rigor. She has contributed to numerous statewide reports focused on early childhood systems, workforce needs, and program evaluation, translating complex data into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders and clients.
In her current role, Betty specializes in data cleaning, statistical analysis, mixed-methods research, and reporting, with advanced proficiency in tools such as SPSS, NVivo, Excel, and Qualtrics. She is experienced in creating contingency tables, figures, codebooks, and comprehensive reports, as well as delivering presentations that communicate findings effectively to diverse audiences. Prior to INCCRRA, she served as a Research Associate and Data Analyst on multiple evaluation teams, where she led and co-led projects, collaborated closely with clients, and supported evidence-based decision-making.

I attribute my success to my genuine passion for research and my commitment to supporting children in early childhood and childcare. I am deeply motivated by the opportunity to study, evaluate, and identify what is truly best for children, particularly through research and surveys focused on improving outcomes for families across Illinois. My dedication to this work and my love for the field continue to drive my professional growth and impact.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is that if you have a strong “why,” you can overcome almost any challenge. Having a clear sense of purpose gives meaning to your work, keeps you motivated during difficult times, and guides you toward decisions that align with your values and long-term goals.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life center on growth, balance, and family. I value watching my children grow and thrive, as it keeps me grounded and motivated. I also cherish experiences that promote well-being and perspective, such as traveling and jogging, which allow me to maintain a healthy balance, stay energized, and approach both life and work with clarity and purpose.
