Her Story

About Betty

Betty Twigg is a seasoned recruiting and human resources consultant with more than 25 years of experience spanning aerospace, manufacturing, chemicals, and technical staffing environments. She currently works as an independent recruiting consultant, providing candidate sourcing and talent acquisition support for organizations seeking structured, process-driven hiring solutions. Her expertise includes executive search, technical recruiting, CRM-based talent pipelines, college recruiting, and full-cycle recruitment strategy.

Her professional background includes progressive recruiting roles across multiple organizations, including talent acquisition work with Airgas, Master Halco, and PrimeSource Building Products, as well as independent executive recruiting through FPC of Hampton Roads. She began her career after transitioning from journalism, where she worked as a community newspaper editor, into recruiting in 2000. Early in her career, she helped launch a virtual recruiting center in Wichita, Kansas, supporting IT, accounting, and finance placements, and received formal training through a Silicon Valley staffing organization whose program was later acquired by ADP. She is also a graduate of Friends University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management.

In addition to her professional work, Betty is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and has consistently taken on leadership and mentoring roles throughout her career. She emphasizes fundamentals such as structured hiring processes, human connection, and empathetic candidate evaluation over shifting industry trends. Based in Wichita, Kansas, she is also a mother of four adopted children and values family deeply, balancing her consulting practice with a strong commitment to personal life and long-term relationships.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Betty

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being highly process-oriented and consistently following clear, step-by-step procedures in everything I do. In recruiting, I ensure I understand the job description and align closely with the hiring manager, while also effectively engaging with candidates and utilizing systems throughout the process. My ability to stay disciplined and follow the process from start to finish—from A to Z—has been the foundation of my success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Staying focused and keeping to the fundamentals. As a recruiter, it's about staying simple and going back to basics — thoroughly reading and understanding job descriptions, matching candidate skill sets, and remembering that recruiting is ultimately about working with human beings. Even as AI tools evolve, the best advice has always been to return to the fundamentals and not lose sight of the human element in the process.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Become educated and remain a student of the industry. Find a mentor or person whose mindset and goals align with yours, and glean as much knowledge as possible from those who have years of experience in the field. Stay focused on the fundamentals rather than chasing trends, and build a stable foundation by learning from those who have a long legacy in the industry.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Technology is ever changing the world of HR, but we must not forget that the human element is still very much important. AI tools are evolving rapidly, but recruiters must return to the fundamentals — working with people, reading resumes carefully, and staying empathetic — because at the end of the day, HR is a deeply human field.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, honesty, authenticity, empathy, and maintaining sharp focus in everything I do. I also place great importance on achieving a healthy balance that allows me to prioritize a meaningful family life alongside my professional responsibilities. I have adopted four wonderful children who bring me immense pride and joy, and they are at the center of that balance and purpose.
