Her Story

About Beverly

I have been in the insurance industry for a total of 16 years, 12 years on the life insurance side and 4 years with Medicare. As an independent agent called The Insurance Chef, I focus on educating clients and helping them find suitable plans rather than pushing products. My past as a chef and my military service in the Navy for 10 years, combined with my accounting degree, help me manage and guide people effectively. I emphasize planning ahead, integrity, and avoiding last-minute decisions at funerals or emergency rooms.

Ten minutes with Beverly

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success mainly to my dad who instilled in us to always do our best and be knowledgeable, along with my military service which reinforced that discipline.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice is to never second-guess yourself and trust your gut feeling when talking with someone. Also, always know your product thoroughly so you do not put anyone in a bad situation.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You have to stand your ground because it is still a man's world in many ways. You need grit and stamina, and you must put in the work and pay your dues rather than expecting to get rich overnight.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is keeping up with constant changes from CMS on the Medicare side, as rules can change daily. Another challenge is helping people differentiate real calls from spam and getting them out of bad enrollment situations.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My integrity and my name are most important. My dad taught me that your word is your word, and you must honor what you say you will do or communicate honestly if you cannot.
