Her Story
About Beverly
As a Marketing and Communications Coordinator, my role is very extensive and I do a lot of different things. I support a plethora of teams in helping them achieve what they need to achieve as a team and as it relates to our organizational goals. My responsibilities range from managing the website to curating newsletters, editing or drafting case studies, and putting together annual reports. I also handle what some might consider smaller items, but they're all important - whether it's ordering swag material and helping to make sure the design makes sense, or logistically facilitating our company events. When we throw events that bring together our participants or communities of focus, I ensure that our mission and vision to create a healthier community across the state of California, and hopefully nationwide, is met by meeting people exactly where they are. What I find most rewarding is knowing that even in the mundane of what I may do, and through the excitement, the highs, the lows, the stress, and the days that are not stressful, there's someone somewhere in California and across the nation that is living a healthier life because data is being exchanged properly. The work that this company does and the work that I do in different organizations is touching somebody and helping impact their lives to be the best version of themselves.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My biggest accomplishment is not losing sight of who God created me to be. The things that I do on Earth are nice - it's nice to hear good job, congratulations - but what's more important to me are the young kids looking up to me, the people that I work with, the people that I look up to, and how we're all working together in our different generations or different fields to just make a better time. Whenever I see my little cousins or meet friends that remind me of something that I shared with them years ago, and how it impacted them, it means a lot to me that just by being diligent in what I'm doing and keeping my sight on the Lord and how He wants to use me, it's really helped others unlock their purpose or get a clear vision as to who God created them to be and what they are called to do. My mentor shared something with me that I stand by: it's not about you, it's about those that come after you, that came before you, and standing right next to you.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've received is from my mentor who always tells me: it's not about you, it's about those that come after you, that came before you, and standing right next to you. This perspective has shaped how I approach my work and reminds me that my impact extends beyond my individual accomplishments to how I influence and support others in their journeys.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell them to never be afraid of the things that they may not plan for. Sometimes we think we know what life will provide for us, or what opportunities will come before us, but somebody's no always creates room for someone else's yes. So just being open to receiving that, and even if it's new, going in 10 toes down and doing the best that they can, because you never know what you can take out of it. As someone who started as a fellow, I never thought I would be here for as long as I am, but I'm grateful for taking a step into a direction I never took before, and just continuing to grow while here.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important value to me is not losing sight of who God created me to be. I am a woman of God, and keeping my sight on the Lord and how He wants to use me guides everything I do. What matters most to me is not the earthly accomplishments or hearing congratulations, but rather the impact I have on others - the young kids looking up to me, the people I work with, and those I look up to. I believe in the Maya Angelou quote that people may forget what you say, but never how you make them feel. I try to involve myself in organizations that are very community-focused because I believe we're all working together in our different generations and different fields to make a better time. It's about helping others unlock their purpose and get a clear vision as to who God created them to be and what they are called to do.
