Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the guidance and support of my teachers, college professors, and advisors. Their mentorship, encouragement, and belief in my potential have shaped my path, providing me with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to grow both personally and professionally. Their influence has been instrumental in helping me navigate challenges and achieve my goals.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to give employees the space to be creative and contribute their own ideas. By allowing teams to collaborate and take ownership, you often discover innovative solutions and perspectives you might not have considered. Sometimes the most effective leadership comes from supporting and guiding from the bottom up, rather than always directing from the top.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the library and education field is to never quit and always stay open to opportunities. If the first two options don’t work, look for a third path—sometimes you have to create your own “Option C.” Flexibility, creativity, and persistence are key to navigating challenges and carving out a successful and fulfilling career.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I face in my field is managing my work while living with an invisible disability resulting from a car accident. Navigating daily responsibilities and maintaining high performance requires resilience, adaptability, and careful self-management. At the same time, this challenge presents an opportunity to advocate for accessibility, raise awareness about invisible disabilities, and demonstrate that dedication and expertise can overcome obstacles.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The value most important to me in both my work and personal life is integrity. I strive to act honestly, ethically, and consistently in all situations, building trust and fostering respect with colleagues, students, and the community. Integrity guides my decisions and interactions, ensuring that I contribute positively and meaningfully in every aspect of my life.
