About Beverly

I started nursing school at a local community college and graduated at a young age, beginning my career as a nurse. As a single mom with one son and three daughters, I pursued further education, earning my bachelor's in nursing and completing my doctorate in nursing practice while setting an example for my children. I hold certifications including Nurse Executive Advanced (NEA-BC), Nursing Professional Development (npd-BC), and am a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). I serve as president of the Texas Nurse Association District 5 and the Central Texas Organization for Nurse Leaders.

Ten minutes with Beverly

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from my mom as my role model who taught me great work values, and my father too. They taught me to work hard, use my head, and keep pushing forward no matter what, never giving up even through struggles.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Look at the job description for the position you want, identify the skills needed, and map out how to acquire those skills to get where you want to be.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Even though it gets hard at times, don't give up. And trust your instincts.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is ensuring nurses have a seat at the table when decisions are made, rather than decisions being driven only by financial or political factors. The opportunity is that nursing is a wide open field with endless possibilities beyond bedside care, including informatics, leadership, and entrepreneurship, and there is always a need for nurses.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty is the biggest value; without it, you miss opportunities and success. I also value relationship-based leadership and the power of meaningful relationships.
