About Bianca
Bianca Augustine is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Counselor Education at William & Mary, where she teaches master's- and doctoral-level counseling courses and supports the preparation of future counselors, particularly those serving military, veteran, and military-affiliated communities. A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Virginia state board–approved clinical supervisor, she also provides telehealth counseling through Mind Over Matter Therapy, specializing in trauma, identity development, life transitions, sexuality, gender, race, and ethnicity. In addition, Dr. Augustine is the founder of Dr. Bianca Augustine, LLC, a consulting and training practice that delivers clinical consultation, trauma-informed education, and professional development to organizations and mental health practitioners across the United States.
Since beginning her career in mental health in 2013, Dr. Augustine has built a multidisciplinary career that integrates clinical practice, higher education, research, and advocacy. She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology and master's degree in psychology with a counseling concentration from McNeese State University before completing her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Old Dominion University. A Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, her research explores trauma, sex and sexuality, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and culturally responsive counseling for marginalized communities. Her work is grounded in a trauma-informed, social justice, and intersectionality-oriented approach that emphasizes healing, resilience, and holistic wellness.
Dr. Augustine is an active leader in the counseling profession through her service with organizations including the American Counseling Association, the Virginia Counseling Association, the California Counseling Association, the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS), and the Association for Counseling Sexology and Sexual Wellness, where she serves as Treasurer-elect. She also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of LGBT Issues in Counseling and has been recognized with William & Mary's Inclusive Excellence Champion Award for her leadership in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and affirming counseling education. Through her teaching, research, clinical practice, and consulting, Dr. Augustine remains committed to mentoring future mental health professionals and expanding access to culturally responsive, evidence-based care for diverse communities.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My family provides energy inspiration and motivation. They are my village. I also love theater and playing with Legos as ways to recharge.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Do it. You are exactly what the field needs. When people are intimidated by your shine do not turn it down or water it down. Do not change you because other people are uncomfortable with your brilliance.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Community is very important to me it is one of my core values. Representation is so important. I hope to inspire other Black girls Black women Black femmes.
