Bianca Vargas

Market Development Manager Spirits
GALLO
Houston, TX 77515

Bianca Vargas is a seasoned spirits and beverage alcohol professional currently serving as a Market Development Manager at E. & J. Gallo Winery, where she oversees spirits brands across STX, SATX, and the Rio Grande Valley within Texas. In her current role, she is responsible for driving market growth, strengthening distributor and retail partnerships, and executing strategic brand initiatives across a diverse and highly competitive territory. Her leadership reflects both deep field experience and a strong ability to translate strategy into measurable execution.
Bianca’s journey in the spirits and hospitality industry spans 14 years and has been built from the ground up through nearly every level of the three-tier system. She began her career in a liquor store managing multicultural accounts, where she developed an early and practical understanding of customer behavior and the Texas distribution model. She then spent eight years with a distributor, gaining comprehensive experience in sales operations, account management, and supply chain dynamics. This foundation gave her a full-circle perspective of the industry and shaped her ability to navigate complex market structures with confidence.
She later transitioned into brand-side roles, working with companies such as Jägermeister, Teremana, and Aguasol Tequila. At Aguasol, a startup brand, she played a highly versatile role taking on responsibilities across marketing, promotions, field execution, and brand ambassadorship. This “wearing many hats” experience strengthened her adaptability, creativity, and leadership in fast-paced environments. Prior to joining Gallo, she also held roles with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits and Mast-Jägermeister US, progressing through merchandising, grocery sales, on-premise sales, and management positions.
What distinguishes Bianca’s career is the breadth of her hands-on experience across nearly every part of the industry except the buyer side of the three-tier system. She has built credibility through consistency, accountability, and a commitment to delivering results at every level—from merchandising shelves to managing territories and leading brand strategy. Her current role at Gallo is especially meaningful, as she was selected outside of the company’s traditional SLDP program, which is typically reserved for college recruits. This selection highlights the value of her real-world experience, leadership capability, and proven success in the field.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to holding myself accountable and always showing up. Gaining and maintaining respect from others is really big to me, because if I work with you, you're going to pass me along to the next person, and my reputation matters. Setting boundaries has become one of my biggest priorities now that I'm in a bigger role. I don't just do the things I used to do when I was working with a startup brand and wearing 55 hats. People still expect that level of service from me, but now I have a marketing team and so many other resources. They know how I work and what I bring to the table, so setting boundaries while always following through with what I say I'm going to do has been essential. I cover half of Texas now, and maintaining that level of respect and accountability across such a large territory is what keeps me successful.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to hold myself accountable and lead by example. My mentors, David Solar and Kaylena Hartman, have both emphasized the importance of always being a student and continuing to learn. David especially has pushed me to always challenge myself to learn more and go further along in my career. The advice to always be learning, no matter where you are in your journey, has been transformative for me. It's about staying curious, staying humble, and recognizing that there's always room to grow.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to young women entering this industry not to be afraid to stand out and ask questions. Being different is always okay, and just because you don't know everything doesn't mean you shouldn't ask the silly questions, because being a student is going to get you further along. I encourage them to be true to themselves. So many people see social media influencers and think they have to blend in, and while it's great to be able to blend and flex with people, staying true to your true self and what your values are is essential. Keep your faith first, and if you feel like you're making the right decision, it's okay to step outside your comfort zone. If you don't have change, you have nothing that's going to make you strive for the top. So stepping outside the comfort zone and not being afraid to be unique is what I'd tell them. It's okay to be bold and different, because that's what makes you who you are.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities in my field right now is the ability to gain and maintain respect in a male-dominated industry. The level of service that I give to my clients makes it a lot easier compared to people who don't show up, who over-promise and never deliver, or who overcommit and under-deliver. There's a real opportunity for women who are willing to show up consistently and build trust with clients and distributors. The industry rewards those who follow through and maintain strong relationships, and that creates space for women to rise into leadership positions when they demonstrate accountability and excellence.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life include integrity, accountability, and authenticity. Having integrity is especially important as a woman navigating a male-dominated industry. I'm committed to holding myself accountable and leading by example, which means demonstrating the standards I expect from others. I believe in always being a student and continuing to learn and evolve throughout my career. Being bold and authentic is central to who I am. It's okay to be different and to stand out, because that uniqueness is what makes you who you are. I also value my faith and family, keeping those at the center of everything I do. Connecting with community, like through the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, grounds my work in purpose and allows me to give back and support other women.
