Ten minutes with Billye

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the mentors who saw my potential before I fully saw it myself, and to my willingness to step outside my comfort zone. Their honest feedback and encouragement helped me build on my strengths and address the areas where I needed to grow. I also credit my commitment to asking thoughtful questions, challenging outdated processes, and bringing the right people together to solve complex problems. Above all, I stay grounded in accountability, integrity, and continuous learning.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I have received is that leadership is not about having every answer. It is about knowing how to approach a challenge, bring people together, and make thoughtful decisions. My mentors also taught me that true growth often comes through challenge rather than comfort, and that a person’s actions must be consistent with their words. The most valuable mentors offer both affirmation and honest, constructive criticism.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell the next generation, especially young women, never to underestimate the value they bring to the table. Do not wait until you feel completely prepared to pursue an opportunity. Growth begins when you accept new responsibilities and trust the knowledge you already have. Speak up, ask questions, and challenge processes when you see a chance to improve them, balancing confidence with humility. You do not need to know everything to lead effectively. Critical thinking, sound judgment, relationship-building, follow-through, and integrity matter just as much as technical expertise. I also encourage collaboration over competition, because there is room for many women to succeed, and one person’s advancement does not diminish another’s. Know your worth, own your accomplishments, and keep investing in your growth. Finally, embrace life beyond the workplace, including family, relationships, travel, and new experiences, because ambition and presence can coexist.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of our greatest challenges is helping organizations recognize the strategic importance of the systems and processes that support employees throughout their careers. Payroll, benefits, performance management, reporting, and compliance often operate behind the scenes, yet each directly affects employee confidence and business continuity. HR technology professionals must also move beyond reactive problem-solving toward sustainable improvements built on strong governance, reliable data, documented processes, clear accountability, and effective change management. Another challenge is guiding employees through organizational change with both accountability and empathy.

The opportunities are equally significant. Automation, analytics, and artificial intelligence can simplify administrative work, reveal workforce trends, improve reporting, and give leaders better information for strategic decisions. The key is ensuring these tools solve meaningful problems while preserving the human judgment and relationships that effective people leadership requires. There is also a growing need for professionals who can work across technical, operational, and strategic functions and build partnerships across HR, Finance, IT, Talent Acquisition, Benefits, Payroll, and executive leadership. I believe the future of HR technology belongs to leaders who combine innovation with empathy, efficiency with accountability, and data with thoughtful decision-making.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
