01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the fact that I take a lot of pride in what I do, and everything I do, I own it like it's my own. I think one of the reasons I've been successful in my role is because I genuinely love what I do and I'm passionate about it. I came into this industry with no background whatsoever in January 2023, and within just over two years, I was able to work from a project manager doing some of the most basic tasks to being where I am now as a Customer Success Manager. I'm now a member of Women in Stone with the Natural Stone Institute, a resource for multiple departments within our company, and one of the go-to people for training newer members of our customer success team. I've been able to achieve so much in such a short amount of time, and I've won our company awards for Synergy and Communication with one of Wisconsin's largest home builders for two out of the three years I've handled their account. What really drives me is that I love working with people - I want to make sure every person knows that every project I work on is important, every person is important, and every project matters. If it didn't matter to the person buying it, they wouldn't invest their money into it, so I want to make sure they understand that it's just as important to me as it is to them. Being able to work through issues with customers and still leave them so happy with everything at the end of the project is probably the most rewarding part of what I do.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is that I can build a meaningful career in a field I truly love, and that it’s okay to pivot and change direction along the way—something I experienced firsthand when I transitioned from studying clinical lab science and microbiology at the University of Wisconsin into discovering my passion for the stone fabrication and surface industry.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You can have a successful career in any field that you choose, just never give up and keep your eyes on the prize. Where do you see yourself in your definition of success? If you stay focused on your path to get there and not if you’re there or not, the sky is the limit for you.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Being in a male dominated field as a woman is always a challenge when it comes to any industry that is construction related… but with that challenge also comes the opportunity to set an example for women everywhere that there is room for everyone at that table, regardless of gender.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In my work, what's most important to me is making sure every person knows that every project I work on is important, every person is important, and every project matters. I take a lot of pride in what I do, and everything I do, I own it like it's my own. I want to make sure people understand that their project is just as important to me as it is to them, because if it didn't matter to the person buying it, they wouldn't invest their money into it. What's really rewarding for me is when there's a hiccup through the process somewhere, but what I'm able to do with my skill set is work through those issues with customers and still, at the end of the project, leave that customer so happy with everything: the whole process, how it was handled, and the end result. In my personal life, I'm always outside - I love hunting and fishing. In the summer months, you can usually find me on a boat fishing. In the spring, I'm turkey hunting or fishing. In the fall, I'm either deer hunting, duck hunting, or goose hunting. In the wintertime, I'm usually either coyote hunting or ice fishing. I love just being outside, whether it be on the water or in the woods hiking. Pretty much, if it's something I can do outside, I'm going to want to do it. I bring my golden retriever with me everywhere that I go.
