Her Story
About Bonnie
Bonnie Maynard is a Market Growth Manager at UnitedHealthcare, where she has built a distinguished career spanning more than two decades in the healthcare insurance industry. Over the past 16 years with UnitedHealthcare, following seven years at Health Net and an earlier stretch as an independent agent, she has risen through roles including Territory Manager, Agent Manager, and Sales Manager of External Distribution Channels before stepping into her current position overseeing growth across Connecticut's eight counties. In this capacity, she provides strategic direction and hands-on training to field marketing organizations and national marketing alliances, guiding agents through the complexities of Medicare Advantage, supplemental, and Part D plans while keeping their work aligned with CMS compliance standards.
Known for her charisma and natural gift for public speaking, Maynard has built her reputation on the ability to inspire and motivate the agents and partners she works with. She develops the presentation materials and go-to-market strategies used during annual enrollment periods, and her talent for connecting with an audience has made her a sought-after voice within her organization. Her achievements reflect this influence, including multiple Sales Excellence Awards, WolfPack Growth honors for the Northeast region, and recognition as the 2019 Champions Club winner after surpassing her annual enrollment goal by a wide margin. She credits her continued success to a disciplined habit of studying industry updates and pursuing ongoing education, paired with an innate talent for building lasting professional relationships.
Maynard holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where she was inducted into Hai Timiai, the school's Senior Women's Honor Society, and she also studied at Seton Hall University School of Law. Beyond her career, she has a deep appreciation for antiques and lamps, which she collects across a variety of styles, and she applies that same eye for design to occasional interior design projects. She is equally devoted to giving back, supporting Connecticut food banks through UnitedHealthcare's community initiatives and raising funds for DestinyAfrica.org and Kampala Children's causes through her church. Grounded in integrity and authenticity, Maynard remains committed to mentoring the next generation of women in her field, encouraging them to believe in their own abilities and pursue the relationships and mentorship that helped shape her own career.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Bonnie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a genuine commitment to lifelong learning. I make it a priority to study, stay current on CMS and industry updates, and complete my continuing education so I can master the language and nuances of this field. My natural ability to build relationships and connect with people, combined with the charisma and confidence to captivate an audience, has also been central to how I've grown in this industry.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
A client once told me that no one will ever tell you how good you really are — you have to stand confident in knowing your own worth and bet on yourself. That advice has stayed with me throughout my career and continues to shape how I carry myself professionally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women to believe in themselves and never let anyone convince them they can't do what others do, especially in an industry that has historically been male-dominated. Find a network, seek out a mentor, and find someone willing to invest in you. Building genuine relationships is what will carry you forward.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is passing the insurance licensing exam, which is genuinely difficult, and then maintaining that license through continuing education every two years. At the same time, this creates real opportunity — for growth in agency and FMO leadership, and for building profitable, compliant Medicare offerings for the people we serve.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity matters most to me, both professionally and personally. I believe in speaking the truth and being honest in every interaction, because people can always tell when you're not being truthful or authentic. Staying true to myself is something I never compromise on.
