Her Story

About Bonnie

I've been in the finance field for over 25 years, and what drew me to this work from the very beginning was recognizing that every business needs finance - it's the fundamental of how the financial health can maintain and continue to grow. With companies public or private, compliance, integrity and ethic are critical. I'm currently in transition from a full-time perspective, but I'm working as a portfolio board advisor, advising a startup in the longevity and AI space. Right now, I'm helping the startup to fundraise, and from there, it's really going to help the startup to literally start up. In my very last role, I established the finance function from zero to one. It was a startup in the sense of the U.S. market - as a company, it's well established outside the U.S., but they got into the U.S. market as a startup at the time I joined, and that's kind of the mission for that entity in the U.S. I've been in that startup space with startup kind of mindset for the past few years. When it comes to my work, I prioritize trust because it's super important, especially when it comes to finances, I focus on quickly establishing that trust with partners, internally and externally, so that we can all move forward quickly. Communication is definitely key as well. What I care about most is the business growth and the team individually - that's one of those comments I've actually gotten from others as well.

Ten minutes with Bonnie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I definitely do care - I care about the business growth, and I care about the team individually. That's one of those comments I've actually gotten from others as well. It's really about that genuine care for both the business and the people.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice, at this point and very personal to me, is to expand out via networking. I tend to, at least from early on, not reach out as much. But now I do realize, definitely, the importance and the value of reaching out and expanding that network, again, internally and externally.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say networking. Feel free to reach out. Even if you don't hear a response back, don't be discouraged - just keep reaching out. There's nothing to lose. It's all there to gain.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say it's more of my priority versus maybe challenge, but it's still relevant. I do see trust is super important, especially when it comes to finances. So quickly establishing that trust with the partners, internally and externally, so that we can all move forward quickly. And with that said too, communication is definitely key. So I'm more focused on how I would prioritize, because I definitely see the importance of that.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and ethics are definitely the foundation of it, both professionally and personally. And again, that kind of caring also - really caring for others. Those are the values that guide everything I do.
