Her Interview
Ten minutes with Brandi
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success primarily to my children. My daughter and son went through difficult circumstances with me, and they became my greatest motivation to build a better life and show them something different. I wanted to break patterns of victimization that had existed in my family and teach my children that they could expect accountability, respect, and healthier relationships.
My children motivated me to become better not only for myself, but for them. I wanted my daughter to know that she did not have to accept being a victim, and I wanted my son to understand the importance of accountability, respect, and treating others appropriately. That motivation continues to influence both my personal life and my professional work.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to be intentional about where they want to go and about the people they allow to influence their professional development. Look at the people around you and ask whether they have the mindset, experience, and capacity to reach the place you ultimately want to be.
Surround yourself with people who are already operating at the level you aspire to reach. Do not allow yourself to remain confined by the expectations or limitations of your environment. I come from a large family with significant challenges, including addiction, domestic violence, and limited educational opportunities, and I learned that the moment you recognize that you have outgrown a situation, you should be willing to move beyond it. Continue learning, expand your perspective, and do not make yourself smaller to fit within someone else's expectations.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Truth and honesty are the most important values in both my professional and personal life. I believe that problems can be worked through when people are willing to operate from a foundation of truth and honesty. Lies create additional obstacles, while honesty gives people the foundation they need to understand a situation, address problems, and move forward.
