Her Interview
Ten minutes with Brandy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to someone taking a chance on me early in my career. Lynn Perry, who was the QA Manager at the time, needed support with utility reports and offered me the opportunity to help, despite my having no prior experience in report writing or quality assurance.
She invested her time in teaching me the fundamentals of quality, often without me even realizing that she was preparing me for something bigger. Through her guidance, trust, and willingness to mentor, I was able to grow into the role I hold today.
Without her belief in my potential, I wouldn’t be where I am. Her example has also shaped how I approach leadership by recognizing potential in others and allowing them to succeed.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
"What are you afraid of? Your fear only limits how far you can go, so don’t let it hold you back." Whenever I start to second-guess my direction, I remind myself of this; it keeps me moving forward.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Educate yourself! Whatever path you choose, commit to it fully, 100%. Read the books, study the articles, understand the regulations, explore the research, and consider every perspective. The deeper your knowledge, the farther you’ll go.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Being in Quality Assurance can be tough. People often see us as the roadblock or the “fun police,” when really, we’re just trying to hold everything together so that the team can succeed.
We want everyone to shine, but sometimes it feels like we’re the villain in the story. Truth is, we’re the glue keeping it all from falling apart. It’s not about saying “no” for the sake of it; it’s about making sure that when things move forward, they move forward safely, correctly, and successfully.
So yes, QA can be the hardest job in the room… but also one of the most rewarding when you see the bigger picture!
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
What I value most, in work and in life, are the connections we build. I value a strong support system, where people lift each other up, celebrate wins, and navigate challenges together. I value being genuine, showing up as myself, and fostering relationships built on trust and authenticity.
At the end of the day, it’s the people around us, the relationships we nurture, that make both work and life meaningful.
