Her Story

About Brandy

Brandy Byrd is an entrepreneur and the CEO of DFW Black-Owned Restaurants (DFWBOR), a Dallas-Fort Worth-based business dedicated to supporting Black-owned businesses in the food industry. Through DFWBOR, she provides social media marketing and advertising services to restaurants, food trucks, bakers, caterers, chefs, and other food-related businesses, helping them strengthen their visibility and connect with their target audiences. With six years of entrepreneurial experience, Brandy combines her professional background in healthcare with business education, including business management coursework at South University and a Women in Business Entrepreneurship certification from eCornell, which she earned in 2022.

Brandy’s approach to entrepreneurship is grounded in integrity, respect, continuous learning, and a willingness to embrace new experiences. She credits much of her success to remaining open to learning, as well as the encouragement and support of her family and friends and the strength of her faith. As she continues to develop DFWBOR, she recognizes that maintaining visibility in an increasingly saturated social media and content-creation market is one of her greatest challenges. She is exploring opportunities to rebrand and rebuild the momentum her business previously achieved while remaining committed to serving and strengthening the local Black-owned business community.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Brandy enjoys immersing herself in a wide range of cultural and social experiences. She appreciates visiting art museums, listening to spoken-word poetry, enjoying music, attending wine tastings, exploring food and shopping, traveling, dancing, and spending quality time with family and friends. Her entrepreneurial journey has taught her to view both successes and setbacks as opportunities for growth. Brandy encourages aspiring entrepreneurs not to fear failure, emphasizing that building a business independently can involve long nights, rejection, and uncertainty, but persistence, support, and a commitment to learning can create a foundation for meaningful and lasting success.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brandy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to staying open to learning, keeping informed, and valuing the support and perspectives of my family, friends and mentors. Above all, I give credit to God for His guidance throughout my journey.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is: Don’t be afraid to try, and don’t be afraid of failure. It’s not going to be easy. There will be late nights, setbacks, and plenty of “no’s,” especially when you’re building something on your own. The key is to keep going, learn from every experience, and remember that every setback is an opportunity to grow.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry or any industry, is to follow your vision while remaining open to making adjustments along the way. Step into your purpose, stay committed to supporting your community, and help small businesses grow. But in the meantime, remain equally committed to your own growth. Build meaningful connections, continue learning, remain resilient and consistent in your efforts, and use your skills strategically to create a lasting, positive impact.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge right now is standing out in an increasingly saturated social media landscape. With so many businesses, influencers, and content creators competing for attention, maintaining a strong and consistent presence is essential to keeping a business visible, relevant, and connected to its audience.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and respect are the values that matter most to me, both personally and professionally. I believe in being honest, treating others with respect, and valuing their experiences and perspectives while remaining true to my own.
