Brandy Montgomery
Brandy Montgomery is the Manager of Healthcare Consulting Services at Dean Dorton, where she has served since 2012. With over 15 years of experience in the healthcare industry, Brandy has developed expertise across the full spectrum of patient accounting, billing, and healthcare administration. Her career began at Jewish Hospital / St. Mary’s Healthcare in Louisville, Kentucky, where she quickly progressed from a temporary administrative assistant to contract manager, managing the entire lifecycle of patient accounts and ensuring accurate billing and reimbursement. Her journey through roles such as systems analyst and consultant has given her a comprehensive understanding of the financial and operational workings of healthcare organizations.
In her current role at Dean Dorton, Brandy leads chart audits and documentation reviews for a diverse client base, including primary care practices, skilled nursing facilities, and specialty clinics in gastroenterology, orthopedics, and pain management. She focuses on ensuring accurate coding, billing, and documentation while providing targeted education to providers to optimize revenue capture and compliance. One of her proudest achievements was identifying undercoding at a client practice and helping increase their reimbursement by nearly 20% within 12 months, reflecting her commitment to both operational excellence and patient-centered care.
Brandy holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisville and is certified as a CPC, CPMA, and CPCO. She is passionate about continuous learning, professional development, and mentoring others in the healthcare consulting field. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, who is a mental health therapist, their two dogs, and engaging in puzzles—a personal passion that mirrors her analytical approach to healthcare consulting.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to cultivating patience and finding contentment in roles that allowed me to deeply learn and grow. I have consistently pursued ongoing education and professional certifications, and I am grateful for the strong support and mentorship I’ve received from both leaders and family along the way.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received comes from the incredible people who have supported and challenged me. Bev Beckman saw my potential early on and encouraged me to grow into a full-time role. Adam Shoemaker has pushed me to strengthen my leadership skills and trust my abilities as a manager. I’m also grateful to my husband, Aaron Montgomery, whose support and wisdom over 23 years have empowered me to be my best self.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to pursue roles that allow for growth, continuing education, and certifications. Take the time to know yourself and what you want before stepping in. While it’s important to strive for advancement, there is also tremendous value in loyalty and intentional focus—growing within a company, developing your skills, and creating opportunities not just for yourself, but for your team as well.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is the tendency toward rapid job-hopping and broad resumes, which can sometimes come at the expense of deep expertise. At the same time, there’s a tremendous opportunity to cultivate focused skills, emphasize compliance, and foster a culture of knowledge-sharing and mentorship that strengthens both individuals and teams.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are trust, mentorship, and continuous growth. I take pride in training and supporting my team to help create a positive environment where everyone can thrive. I enjoy sharing the knowledge I’ve gained and hope to see others exceed even what I’ve achieved, building meaningful relationships that foster personal and professional growth.
Outside of work, I cherish time with my husband, who is a mental health therapist, supporting him with his private practice, and enjoying our life together with our two dogs. I also have a passion for puzzles and activities that challenge my mind and expand my knowledge, which ties directly into my career and personal curiosity.
