Her Story
About Breanna
Breanna Williams serves as a Customer Service Representative and Retention Specialist in the insurance billing industry, a role she has held for close to 6 years. Her career began in customer service at VisionWorks in optometry, where she worked for 4 to 5 years, before a friend connected her to an opportunity in insurance billing. Though new to the field, she quickly rose to the top within 6 months, earning recognition as a retention specialist for her ability to connect with customers, address their concerns, and retain plans through compassionate service. As a single mother of three girls, Williams started college at age 32 to study criminal justice while managing her responsibilities, and she also earned an HR Assistant certificate. She attributes her professional success to her drive to show her daughters that determination allows one to achieve goals even without support. Williams values honesty, faithfulness, and consistency in her work and personal life, and she has received advice to not take difficult interactions personally. She aspires to advance into a team lead or supervisor role and potentially human resources within insurance.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Breanna
01What do you attribute your success to?
The motivation to keep going to show my girls that you can do it even if you're alone and don't have help. I put my mind to it and get it done. I started going back to college at 32 while being a single mom to prove this to my children.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Some people are just having a bad day. They hate the world, but they don't hate you. Don't take it personal. This got me through a lot of hard phone calls.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It's rough out there but don't let it make you rough. If you have the compassion for people and want to help people, let that be your drive. Don't give up, turn and ask for help. There's never a stupid question. If you want to do it, you just have to do it. There's no excuses.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenge is showing customers the value of their plan and providing customer service amid many plans and phishing calls. Opportunities include learning new aspects of the field, adding to resume, growing, and potentially moving into human resources for insurance.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, faithfulness, consistency. Especially honesty and being able to be trusted by others.
