Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brenda

01What do you attribute your success to?

I grew up with parents that immigrated, brought into the U.S. at a young age, and saw them struggle through manufacturing and integrating into a new country. From very little, I was an advocate for them, translating and advocating at hospitals, doctors, schools, and work. This gave me the willingness and perseverance to advocate for others like my parents could have been. Being Hispanic and bilingual in HR where diversity wasn't big, I worked ten times harder to find my feet at the table.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Starting and having your values set in place allows you to navigate organizations that pivot and change. Stay true to yourself, the reason why you do things, and always with a sense of integrity. If we don't stay true to ourselves, we lose ourselves. As long as that person has the right values and integrity, anything is achievable.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Respect, empathy, integrity, and passion in what I do. Integrity, respect, empathy, passion in what I do and how I see them.
