Brenda Chapa is the Co-Founder and Operations Lead of Ramos Renditions, a Houston-based mural company she runs alongside her husband, Bobby Ramos, who serves as Creative Director. At Ramos Renditions, Brenda oversees the business and production side of the company, managing brand strategy, marketing, client relations, and project logistics. She also serves as lead muralist and videographer, translating concepts into large-scale, visually impactful artwork. Her work can be seen throughout Houston, including projects for the Houston Astros, University of Houston–Downtown, and Houston Heights Liberty Kitchen’s HMFA on Van Gogh, which was featured on The CW.

Brenda’s artistic journey began while balancing college and part-time roles as a tennis instructor and bilingual education teacher. During that time, she discovered her passion for mural work, captivated by the ability to infuse spaces with storytelling and the distinct “H-Town” cultural feel. With encouragement from her husband and a growing portfolio of commissioned work, she transitioned to full-time mural creation, focusing on projects that elevate spaces, engage communities, and serve as organic marketing for businesses through Instagrammable art installations.

In addition to her mural work, Brenda is a published children’s book author and illustrator, with titles including Slimey the Snail and The Ant and the Wasp. She actively participates in community and arts initiatives, volunteering with events like Via Colori to raise funds for children with hearing loss. Brenda combines her creativity, project management skills, and marketing expertise to produce murals that are both visually stunning and strategically aligned with her clients’ brands, making her a prominent voice in Houston’s contemporary public art scene.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the unwavering support of my husband, the years I spent building experience—first part-time and then full-time—and cultivating the confidence to advocate for myself and the value of my work.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to be confident and know your worth. Without confidence and a clear understanding of your value, you risk holding yourself back from opportunities where you’re meant to shine. Once I embraced this advice, I recognized the importance of stepping forward, trusting my abilities, and putting myself out there.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering my industry to be confident, know their worth, and be ready to take the leap when opportunities arise. Embracing these principles allows you to step into roles that challenge you and showcase your full potential.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Right now, some of the biggest opportunities in my field lie in marketing, building visibility, and establishing credibility through networking and earned media features. The primary challenge is shifting perceptions—helping people see murals as inspiring, long-lasting works that transform a space, rather than simply paint on a wall.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are confidence, community engagement, and inspiring others through art. I also love finding joy and connection in simple, fun moments—like doing karaoke—which reminds me to celebrate creativity in all forms.
