Her Story
About Brenda
I'm a project manager and social media manager at Design and Dwell Homes, an interior design company where I've been working for about 2 years, starting remotely with social media and then being hired full-time since November. I handle our projects, manage contacts with vendors and clients, and make sure everything flows right and we're on time project-wise. I also manage our inventories at our local warehouse, making sure we have all the items we need and doing inventory whenever deliveries come in. For social media, I do photography and videos, which I've always enjoyed. I like doing management and I like details, so I think that's why I ended up in this job. I really enjoy building connections with different companies and clients as part of the work. Sometimes we travel to markets in North Carolina or to different states whenever there's an interior design install in another state. Before this, I grew up in the Philippines where I earned my bachelor's degree in secondary education with a major in mathematics from St. Mary's College. I also went to a missionary school and was a missionary for 5 years, leading teams in 23 different countries. The biggest challenge I face now is having less time with my two sons since I'm working full-time and sometimes traveling for work.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say, don't be afraid to take risks. Face challenges, because you grow and learn. When you make mistakes, you just learn from your mistake and try to do it better the next time. You learn, even if you make mistakes, and you learn, and you process, and you evaluate. I could do better at the next thing.
