Her Interview
Ten minutes with Brenda
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to ownership and dedication. I am a slave to my own success and put in far more than the paid 40 hours, often 60 hours minimum, through personal investment, continuous learning, and hard work.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received from my original mentor was that your accent nor your color can hold you back. He emphasized focusing on results rather than appearance or speech, and that women's intuition gives us an upper hand in strategic thinking.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Invest in yourself. Do the job you are paid for in those 40 hours but invest additional time to build knowledge and confidence. Do not give up.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is technical knowledge since we do not work with our hands on the physical tasks like bending pipe or terminating wires. The opportunity lies in recognizing when you have an upper hand or unique idea that others did not consider, allowing you to contribute strategically and claim credit for your insights.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, respect, consistent effort, mentorship, trust, and family are my core values. In work I emphasize coming forward with the truth immediately to build team trust and succeed together rather than hiding mistakes. In personal life family is everything and I strive to be a good parent so my children can come to me with anything.
