Her Story

About Brenda

Brenda Tapia is an independent photographer based in Miami, Florida. She has worked in the field since 2023, providing services that include engagement shoots, family portraits, baptisms, gender reveals, and baby showers. Her approach emphasizes concept development, visual storytelling, client collaboration, and post-production using tools such as Photoshop. Tapia draws inspiration from her father's background in photography. In addition to her photography work, she has served as a caregiver since 2023 and as a peer mentor in the Mentor Collective since January 2025. She also shadowed at a special education school in Argentina from August through October of the previous year. Tapia earned a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in entrepreneurship from Florida International University and an associate in arts from Miami Dade College through dual enrollment. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in marketing at Florida International University, with plans to later complete a master's in professional counseling psychology to become a therapist with her own practice. Tapia is a member of the Honors College at FIU, the National Society of Leadership and Success, the International Honor Society of Psychology, and the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She has volunteered at the MJD Nourishing Souls Community Food Pantry since 2024. Tapia attributes her success to her parents and family, values family, impact, and connection in both her personal and professional life, and advises young women entering photography not to be intimidated by the male-dominated field.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brenda

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute everything to my parents. Everything I've accomplished is for my parents and for my family.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Search for your vocation based on your personality type using tests like the 12 Personality Tests. I took it in school and it was very accurate for me.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do not be intimidated in the male-dominated photography field. Believe in yourself with real confidence, put a step forward, and keep going with what you love.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenge is decline in clients possibly due to economy. Opportunity is room for growth, making a team, especially seeing new young women photographers in Miami.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Family values are most important. Searching for impact and connection. Trying to make a real difference professionally and in school.
