Her Story

About Brenna

I've been an artist my entire life, and I've been in my field for over 10 years. I work in beauty now, specializing in graphic design, packaging design, and branding. My typical day involves meeting with the brand team, going over projects we're working on, then concepting and doing research. I come up with what the products will look like, then create the products, the packaging, the bottles, the labels, the artwork, the logos, and then mock it all up and build a presentation deck. I put the bottles in beautiful pictures so that the customer can see what it actually looks like in use, or like product photography, and then pitch it to the team. Before my current role, I worked in hair care where I built complete brands from scratch and rebranded over 200 SKUs in 8 months with 8 languages on the back for professional hair care, launching it globally with great success during COVID. Before that, I worked in men's hair care, and before that it was non-profit work. Everything in between has been painting and selling art on the side. I created the Cheeky line for NatureWell at Target from scratch, and it won an award at Target because it's doing really well.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brenna

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say my willpower, to be honest. I have a strong sense of willpower, and then I would say the people in my life who have helped me just stay on track, or support me in those moments. So a strong sense of self, and willpower, even when I was lost, and then the people to, you know, be reflections of that and support me along the way.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

In my work, you don't take anything personally, and the best career advice would just be find something you love, and you know, just enjoy the process of becoming the thing that you want to be.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would give them advice to not take themselves too seriously, but take themselves seriously enough. Be open to feedback, be gentle with themselves, and just have fun.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I have faced over-giving. I feel like a lot of women face that. Over-giving or not having strong boundaries. I faced that when I was young, and took on a lot, and didn't ask for much in return, and then when I did, it was a problem. So, not having strong boundaries, not understanding myself fully, and then knowing how to communicate better. And, you know, take care of me, so then I could pour from a full cup into other things. In terms of opportunities, more of a leadership role is ahead for me. Right now, our team is small enough and big enough that we're expanding so fast that we're going to start to hire more employees. So, taking more of a leadership role, in the sense of managing more people. And then working on communication skills to communicate the best. For design, you have to communicate down and tell somebody what you want them to make, and if you don't communicate well, they don't get to make the thing well. So, being clear in communication, and then just building out a team.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Connections is a top value of mine, so it's community. Truth, transparency, creativity, authenticity, and love. Always love. I love love.
