About Breshna Daniella Shah
Breshna Daniella Shah Martinez brings 19 years of legal experience to her current role as a Paralegal Specialist with the Defense Logistics Agency at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, a position she has held since April 2022. In this capacity, she manages a wide range of responsibilities including enterprise litigation support, electronic discovery, litigation holds, ethics training, and administrative operations such as hiring actions and office management. Her career path to federal service was shaped by earlier roles in both the private sector and the military: she spent time as a Litigation Case Coordinator with Marriott Vacations Worldwide, where she handled consumer complaints, timeshare disputes, garnishments, subpoenas, and records management, and she served five years in the United States Army as a Cryptologic Linguist specializing in Spanish. That military service also gave her the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in French, Italian, and Portuguese, rounding out a professional profile built on both legal precision and linguistic versatility.
Academically, Breshna holds an Associate Degree and a Bachelor's Degree in Legal Studies, with a minor in Political Science, from Mercy University. She broadened her international perspective through a foreign exchange program in Spain during her senior year and a subsequent summer spent studying in France, where she earned a diplôme d'études. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she credits her parents for instilling in her the belief that education should take precedence above all else, a value that has guided her decisions and fueled her drive throughout her career. Of all her accomplishments, she considers completing Army Basic Combat Training at the age of 26 to be her proudest personal achievement, a milestone that tested her physically and mentally while building the discipline and resilience she continues to draw on today.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Breshna is deeply committed to community involvement, regularly volunteering with local animal shelters and having been recognized during her military service for her contributions to animal welfare initiatives. She holds trustworthiness, ethics, and integrity as central to both her professional conduct and personal life, striving always to follow through on her commitments. Looking to the future, she intends to pursue a Master's Degree in Political Science with the goal of returning to the intelligence community as a federal civilian, where she hopes to continue combining her language skills and legal expertise in service to her country.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my family, particularly the strong work ethic and value they placed on education. My parents made it clear that they wanted me to get educated first and foremost — more than they emphasized getting married or having children — and that foundation has shaped everything I've built in my career.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Build a strong educational foundation and continue investing in your professional development. Success comes from consistency, patience, and being willing to learn every aspect of your field over time.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell them not to get impatient if things don't happen right away. Focus on getting educated and building a solid foundation — certifications are just as valuable as degrees. Once you have that strong base, start building real experience through internships, and above all, be consistent.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The legal profession continues to evolve with rapidly changing technology, particularly in electronic discovery, litigation support, and information governance. Professionals who embrace technology, develop specialized legal skills, and remain adaptable will find growing opportunities within both government and private-sector legal environments.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Trustworthiness, ethics, and integrity are the values I hold most important — in both my professional and personal life. For me, that means being someone who keeps their word and consistently follows through on what I say I'm going to do.
