Her Story
About Bri
What I love most about my work is seeing clients who are actually doing the work start to come alive. So many people think going to a therapist is about the therapist and what they're going to offer you, but the relationship and connection you form with your therapist is important - it really is all about whether the client wants to show up for themselves or not. I get to be the person that gets to faithfully walk with them and show them that they're worth showing up for themselves. And when they start to believe that, I think that's the sweetest part of my work. What I found is that there's a lot of clients going to therapists who would just sit and listen to them, which is great - you need to be an active listener to be a therapist - but a lot of clients weren't getting the tools that they needed, or they weren't having the opportunity to integrate their spiritual life into their mental health, which is huge. When we look at the whole person, we're looking at mind, body, heart, spirit, and their relationships - it's all integrated. I found there's a lot of clients, especially in Denver, Colorado, struggling to find a therapist that would talk to them about their faith but would also talk to them about neuroscience more specifically. My focus has become trying to help clients navigate the integration of their faith and their mental health, helping them understand why anxiety happens, what the nervous system is, and how do you believe in a faithful sense while also knowing from a scientific sense what's going on.

Ten minutes with Bri
01What do you attribute your success to?
Honestly, and this might sound cliche, but just God's goodness. I would not have had the will, strength, or opportunities to do this on my own. I think just trusting - I almost see it like a trust fall. You know, when you lean back and someone catches you, I kind of see it a little bit like that, but I'm falling back into someone that is 100% trustworthy 100% of the time. So I think that has to be the thing that has rooted me personally and has healed me personally and allowed me to do this work in a very personal way.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My own counselor during my undergrad put a bug in my ear to pursue counseling myself. She kind of laughed and was like, you're already doing the work for me, you should just look into doing this work yourself. That encouragement from her, combined with encouragement from my now-husband to take a deep dive and go back to school, really set me on this path.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think there's a huge opportunity for more people to have access to nervous system regulation through neurofeedback. It's the foundation for people to start actually being able to use their brains. If people don't feel safe - and I don't just mean feeling like 'oh, I feel sad,' but if their bodies feel unsafe, if their bodies feel on edge, worked up, anxious, which a lot of people do - their brain literally can't work optimally. So I can't expect people to make good decisions, have good relationships, have good communication when they don't feel safe inside themselves. Neurofeedback provides an opportunity to do that. There's also a real gap in the market for therapists who will integrate faith and mental health - a lot of clients in Denver, Colorado are struggling to find a therapist that would talk to them about their faith but would also talk to them about neuroscience more specifically.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Authenticity is one of my personal core values. As a therapist, I think clients really want to know who they're working with and really value authenticity. I've been putting a lot of work, arguably too much, into building a brand that feels like me, so that other people know what they're getting into when they're gonna sit down with me. I've always had a passion for helping people - I love the brain and the body, I just think it's absolutely miraculous how it all works together for our good and for our detriment.
