Her Interview

Ten minutes with Briana

01What do you attribute your success to?

Briana’s journey in healthcare spans more than 17 years, beginning with neuromuscular therapy and evolving into a deeply personal and purpose-driven focus on women’s health. Her early work was rooted in the belief that the body has an extraordinary natural capacity to heal when people understand what it needs. That philosophy led her to emphasize whole-person wellness, nutrition, self-care, balance, and addressing the underlying causes of pain and imbalance rather than simply masking symptoms.

Over time, Briana found her calling in maternal and reproductive health. She transitioned into birth work in 2015 and began practicing professionally as a labor and postpartum doula in 2019. She has continued expanding her expertise as a student midwife, childbirth educator, and aspiring lactation consultant, with the goal of becoming a licensed midwife within the next two years.

Today, Briana balances motherhood with her commitment to serving families. As a mother of three young children, she understands firsthand the physical, emotional, and practical realities of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. Several nights a week, she works with families in their homes, providing postpartum doula support, newborn-care guidance, and reassurance during one of the most transformative periods of their lives.

Education remains an important part of Briana’s long-term vision. She is completing an accelerated bachelor’s degree in midwifery and plans to pursue a master’s degree in anthropology and social change. She hopes to use her education and professional experience to advocate for women’s health, expand access to education, and move into leadership within the maternal-health space.

Her larger vision extends beyond her own practice. Briana hopes to establish a midwifery school and wellness clinics dedicated to women, creating spaces where education, holistic care, advocacy, and empowerment can come together.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Briana’s professional development has been shaped by a desire to keep learning and to find work that genuinely reflects her values. Rather than pursuing education simply for the sake of earning a credential, she chose to return to school when she discovered a field that aligned with her passion and long-term purpose.

Her experiences as a mother have also become an important source of perspective. Raising three young children while continuing her education and professional development has given her an intimate understanding of the challenges families face. That firsthand experience strengthens the empathy she brings to her work with new parents.

Her involvement with professional organizations, including the Katy Birth Network and the Greater Houston Midwife Alliance, has further connected her with the broader birth and maternal-health community. These professional relationships allow her to continue learning, building relationships, and contributing to a field she hopes to help advance.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Briana’s journey demonstrates the importance of pursuing work that has meaning rather than simply following a conventional timeline. Her return to school later in life reflects her belief that education is most powerful when it is connected to genuine passion and purpose.

She encourages women and families to remain curious about their health and to recognize that there is always more to learn. Knowledge can help people become stronger advocates for themselves, particularly during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery.

For new parents, she emphasizes the value of preparation and support. Caring for a newborn while recovering from childbirth can be overwhelming, and families should not feel that they have to navigate the experience alone. Accepting guidance, seeking education, and building a supportive community can make a meaningful difference.

Briana also believes that women should give themselves permission to evolve. Her own career has moved from neuromuscular therapy into birth work, midwifery, lactation, education, and advocacy. Each chapter has built upon the last, demonstrating that a career can develop organically as purpose becomes clearer.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Balancing professional ambitions with motherhood is one of Briana’s greatest challenges and one of her greatest sources of strength. Raising three young children while completing an accelerated degree and continuing to serve families requires flexibility, discipline, and persistence.

Yet those responsibilities have also given her a deeper understanding of the women she serves. Her experiences at home reinforce the importance of compassionate, practical support for mothers and families.

Briana sees significant opportunities to expand the conversation around maternal health, particularly through education and advocacy. She hopes to use her future credentials and experience to address women’s health from a broader perspective and to help create more informed, empowered communities.

She is also working toward becoming a stronger public voice. Briana is developing written work centered on women’s health, education, spirituality, identity, and purpose, and she is open to opportunities to speak at seminars and other professional events.

Ultimately, Briana’s path is about building something larger than a career. She is working toward a future in which women have access to education, compassionate care, meaningful support, and spaces where their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being can all be valued. Her journey is still unfolding, but every step brings her closer to a vision centered on service, advocacy, and empowering the next generation of women and families.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

At the heart of Briana’s work is a commitment to treating women as whole people rather than simply addressing isolated medical concerns. She believes physical health is deeply connected to mental, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being.

Her approach is grounded in education and empowerment. She believes people should understand their bodies, feel confident advocating for themselves, and have access to the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their health.

This philosophy is especially meaningful during pregnancy and postpartum recovery, when women and their families can experience enormous physical and emotional changes. Briana strives to provide the support and guidance that can help families feel more prepared and less alone.

She also understands the importance of community. In a time when many parents are raising children without the close-knit support systems that previous generations often relied upon, Briana sees her role as part of the village surrounding a new family. Her work provides practical assistance while also reminding parents that seeking support is an essential part of caring for themselves and their children.

Briana’s vision for her future work also reflects her belief that women’s health should encompass more than physical care. She wants to encourage women to explore their identities, purpose, spirituality, mental well-being, and the possibilities available to them.
