Ten minutes with Briana
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being very well-rounded and excelling in every department. People always tell me they wish they could just clone me because I can handle anything - whether it's patient care, managing the clinic, sales tax, reports, you name it. You give me a shoebox and I make it work. I'm very level-headed, realistic, and honest with my patients. I think the big important thing is your patient base and loyalty - staying loyal to your patients because if you treat them well, they'll treat you well. Referrals and having good reviews matter so much, especially in a competitive market like Austin. My patients love that I'm very honest with them and give them their options with realistic expectations. I don't just sell to sell - I want to give them the right treatment for their needs. As a provider, I'll be honest, because there's a lot of providers out here that will sell just to sell, and that's not the right treatment for the patient. At the end of the day, it's more work for the provider and a headache. My patient base is very loyal - I've had patients that have been with me since 2012, and even some that transferred over from American Laser. That loyalty and trust is everything.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge today is that it's very competitive. When I first started back in 2007, there wasn't as many med spas, but the industry has grown and everybody kind of wants to jump on the bandwagon. Now in Austin, there's a med spa on every corner. Sometimes you have to go back to the basics, the old school way of going business to business and letting them know who you are and what you do. The challenge is that somebody next door could have the exact same thing we have, and we need to price it maybe a little bit better because some patients will go with a lower price. I think the big important thing is your patient base and loyalty - having good reviews and your patients being happy and loyal. Referrals are gonna matter because if you've been going to somebody for 10 plus years and you trust them, and I'm your best friend, then I'm gonna trust you and go to your person. That's big because it's very challenging in Austin with so many med spas when there didn't used to be as many. On the opportunity side, it's nice to see the expansion and education in this industry. You start to see younger patients come in, but it's all preventative because there's more education on wearing SPF and starting treatments early. The innovation of how wavelengths grow and how certain technology can target certain things keeps evolving.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important values to me are honesty, loyalty, and treating people the way I want to be treated. I'm very honest with my patients - I give them their options and realistic expectations. I treat it as I would want somebody to be honest with me, like just don't sell me. As a provider, at the end of the day, I'll be honest because there's a lot of providers out here that will sell just to sell, and that's not the right treatment for the patient. I wouldn't just leave my current employer hanging even though I'm moving to a new opportunity - I have a relationship with them and I'm not gonna just leave them hanging. I need to give at least a month notice because I can't do two weeks. Even though it's competitive in Austin, if another spa needs help or they ran out of Botox and they need a vial from me, I'll give it to them - it's kind of like scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. I'm big on that, I'm a big girl's girl. In my personal life, it's all about my son - he'll be 5 next week and he's my world. He keeps me definitely busy and it's all about him.
