Her Story
About Brianna
Brianna Hawkins is an Adult and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner who has been practicing medicine in the DFW area for Baylor Scott & White Health since becoming a nurse practitioner in 2014. With a deep passion for caring for the geriatric aging population, she has established herself as a leader in the advanced practice provider space in the inpatient hospital medicine world. Hawkins earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with high honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 2005, completed a year-long evidence-based practice fellowship focused on research at Texas Christian University in 2011, and obtained her Master's degree as an Adult and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2016. She is an active member of the Texas Nurse Practitioners organization, where she engages in advocacy and legislative efforts to improve patient access to care. In addition to her professional commitments, Hawkins serves on the board of the National Charity League as vice president of TikTokers, participating in mother-daughter philanthropy with her daughter, and is involved in a master gardening group in Colleyville. She attributes her success to having the courage to step into leadership roles even when feeling under-equipped, maintaining a posture of servanthood, and benefiting from the guidance of a close mentor.

01What do you attribute your success to?
Having courage to step into situations even when feeling unequipped or like an imposter, stepping into leadership roles, maintaining a posture of servanthood, and having a close mentor who encouraged this.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Have courage to put yourself in situations even if you feel like you're not equipped, you are. If somebody needs your leadership or mentorship, step out and lead even if you feel under-equipped or like an imposter.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Sustainability is really important. Find something you feel like you can do and be sustained, be self-fulfilled. Especially in healthcare, avoid burnout by finding a career path that personally sustains and fulfills you so you can do it long-term.
