Her Story

About Brianna

Brianna McNary specializes in sports media and founded Off the Fields Media and Training. She focuses on media training with youth athletes ages [AGE] and up to prepare them for on-camera interactions, future press conferences, and interviews, particularly those who take their sports seriously and are nationally ranked. She started this work in college back in 2016 after beginning her career as a sports journalist and then a news producer, gaining experience in television and hard news from both behind-the-scenes and on-camera perspectives as talent. Currently based in Columbus, Ohio after time in South Florida, Brianna attributes her success to her family's athletic history and the influence of her grandfathers, especially after losing her father, with sports serving as a family love language. In her spare time she does community outreach with a local magazine and works with autistic children, while consistently giving back to Ohio State, her alma mater.

Ten minutes with Brianna

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute it to probably just athleticism and my family. There's a history of athleticism in the family, particularly women in the family always supporting men's sports. The influence of my grandfathers, they were both pretty athletic. When I lost my dad, obviously they stepped into that role a lot more. Sports was something that was just always a part of our love language.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think that you have a vision, right? And I think that you try to do everything within your power to make that vision come true, but just to be prepared for things that don't necessarily go in that vision. Be prepared for loopholes, be prepared for failure. You have to be resilient when it comes to entrepreneurship. Having a mentor, no matter what age you are. Understanding your resources, knowing when to utilize those. Be prepared for redirection sometimes, because you it can all come together in the end.
