Her Story

About Brianna

Brianna Vermilya is a program leader with Gwinnett County Government, working in Parks and Recreation at a community center in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In her role, she engages with the public, organizes community events, develops programming for seniors, and secures sponsorships to support local initiatives. She began her career with Gwinnett County in 2024, shortly after earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business. Her professional background spans public service, marketing, communications, healthcare, and insurance, giving her a versatile foundation in strategic planning, community outreach, brand development, and relationship building. During her marketing internship at Piedmont Healthcare, she contributed to strategic marketing initiatives and presented recommendations to executive leadership. She also gained communications experience at Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church, where her work strengthened newsletter engagement, digital outreach, and event promotion.

Beyond her work in public service, Brianna is an author, writer, and musician with a passion for storytelling and creative expression. She published her poetry novel, Forged in the Quiet, which explores themes of abuse, adolescence, adulthood, relationships, and the challenges women encounter throughout their lives. Her writing reflects her commitment to authentic storytelling and creating opportunities for readers to connect with difficult experiences through reflection and shared understanding. Brianna also previously founded Jade’s Halo, a nonprofit dedicated to suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and chronic illness advocacy. Through community partnerships, fundraising events, and educational initiatives, she worked to connect individuals with resources and encourage greater awareness of mental health. She later sold the organization and facilitated its merger with another organization, marking a new chapter in her entrepreneurial journey while building on the mission she had established.

Brianna attributes her success to authenticity, determination, and the willingness to pursue opportunities beyond her immediate circumstances. She believes in remaining true to herself, embracing her individuality, and seeking out greater opportunities when necessary rather than allowing limitations to define her path. Her commitment to leadership and service was evident during her time at Georgia State University, where she served as president of Lead Team and contributed to student engagement, leadership development, and community initiatives. Her accomplishments include being named Student of the Year at Maxwell High School, as well as earning recognition for her involvement in student organizations, including Student Organization of the Year in 2022 and Outstanding Leader honors. Guided by honesty, hard work, and dedication, Brianna continues to combine her interests in public service, leadership, and creative writing to make a meaningful impact on the people and communities she serves.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brianna

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being authentic and determined. I've never been afraid to just be myself, and if I don't fit in that room, I go find a room that's bigger. I'm also a very determined person, so if I want something, I'm gonna find a way to make it happen.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice is don't disqualify yourself before you qualify yourself. A lady at Walmart told me that before a big interview, and I got the job the next day. I've been spreading that wisdom ever since.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My biggest advice is definitely get over the imposter syndrome. Don't disqualify yourself before you actually qualify yourself and try. Because you're a lot more capable than you think you are, and if you're in a room that doesn't feel right, go find the right room.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunity is personal growth. I started this job a month and two weeks ago and don't even recognize myself. Before, I was scared to ask for ketchup, now I'm walking into businesses and calling people.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think definitely honesty, like going back to being authentic, and just being hardworking, like being dedicated.
