Her Story
About Bridget
I founded Twisted Career in 2020 after spending about 20 years in the career development and talent acquisition field. My journey into this work actually started from an unexpected place. I originally wanted to be a veterinarian with my background in animal science and biology from Tuskegee University, because my passion was helping animals. But my path shifted when I was working in healthcare informatics back in 2005 through 2007, building out teams in a very little-known space at the time. I was reaching out to people in the healthcare field who didn't know they could have careers that weren't directly patient care, and being able to see that aha moment on candidates' faces when they discovered a new career that leveraged their skill set in a totally different sector is really what got me into this space. That's when I realized I could still help, just from a different angle, by being able to help elevate people and take them to the next level in their careers. As a career strategist and talent acquisition partner, my key responsibilities include career development, building membership programs to help people find referrals and placement for new professional opportunities, and creating professional development programming around interviewing, resume writing, and compensation negotiation. I'm particularly proud of achieving a 100% placement rate during my recruiting days, where most of the people I placed actually stayed in their positions for the first 90 days of employment.

Ten minutes with Bridget
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success first to God, a higher entity giving me the strength and knowledge to be able to move through any type of adversity or obstacles that may be put my way. Confidence and motivation is big as well. Having the motivation to get up and do things, even when you don't feel like it, I think that's a big driver in my success. It's being able to do the work, even when it's not fun work, but being able to get it done, knowing that it contributes to a bigger picture.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was to take initiative and don't wait to be asked. I think that goes for anything, not only career, but anything in life. It just shows your character, it shows your work ethic, when you can actually take initiative, see what needs to be done and do it.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would give them advice to know your worth, know your competencies. I think that a lot of people, regardless of field, can fall victim to imposter syndrome. I think that what you know is enough. There's always room to learn, but the advice I would give is really know who you are, what you want to do, learn your skill set, and own that.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges and opportunities in my work, especially when you talk about talent acquisition, can be based on the economy, can be based on the environment and the space. Some job markets are harder than others, as we all know, so I think a biggest blocker is being able to get people to acknowledge what those roadblocks are, and putting together a plan of action to overcome them.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Values that are most important to me are being tenacious, having tenacity, and also having the confidence to move forward and take risks. I think those are really big values that I hold dear to me, being able to have the confidence and being able to stand ten toes down in the work that I do. Also, being able to make sure that whatever I'm putting out is having a positive impact on people.
