About BRIDGET
Bridget Smith serves in career services at Miller-Motte College, where she supports students pursuing medical billing coding and healthcare information technology. With a little over five years in the field, she joined the institution in July 2024 after a series of progressive roles in education and prior experience in insurance and healthcare. She began her career in customer service at Traveler's Insurance from January 2007 through March 2015, handling property and casualty insurance matters, before moving into the medical field at Texas Children's, where she was promoted, and then to Houston Methodist. In July 2021 she joined Tulsa Welding School and Technology Center in Houston as a Career Service Advisor. She advanced to Senior Career Service Advisor in March 2022 and to Assistant Director of Career Services in June 2022, remaining until July 2024. Now at Miller-Motte College, she continues in career services while pursuing a bachelor's degree in human resource management as a full-time student. She attributes her drive to setting an example for her children through education, leadership, and service, including her faith in God and involvement on the usher board, and she advises young women entering the industry to keep their head up, never give up, and stay focused.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with BRIDGET
01What do you attribute your success to?
My motivation is for my children, to set that example in front of them to let them know it can be done. I want to show them that here's mom, she's gonna graduate with her degree at 54. My son is 27, my daughter is 32. Instead of motivating them to do better, you know, my daughter please go back to school. That's my motivation to her, my motivation to my son, just be a better version of me. I just try to live by example. They see me loving on people, my caring heart, my faith in God, that I'm on the usher board, serving, how I am a wife, to my bonus children, the grand-kids, how family-oriented I am.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Keep your head up. Don't give up. Stay focused. If you do those three things here at this school, anything in your life, you will make it.
