Her Story
About BRITNEY
I have been involved in the construction industry since I was young, working with my dad's company, Eagles Painting and Remodeling. I officially started helping out around age 14, and I continue to work with him during summers and winter breaks, handling social media, financial advising, and organization. Sometimes he even has me and my brother go door-to-door, which I'm not always thrilled about, but I know it's teaching me valuable skills. I began formally studying architecture in 2023, inspired by my family's experience building our own home when I was in 8th grade. Our neighbor was an architect who let me be very involved in the design process, and watching him bring our Pinterest visions and ideas to life was incredible. One of my proudest accomplishments was helping design and facilitate the construction of a house for my grandparents in Jalisco, Mexico, using my freshman year SketchUp and Revit knowledge. Seeing that project come together and visiting my grandparents there now is truly special. I'm passionate about building homes for people, and I'm actively involved with AIAS at my school chapter. Outside of architecture, I work as an outdoor adventure guide and love anything outdoors - hiking, surfing, backpacking, you name it. I'm also a leader for Young Life, a Christian organization I was involved with in high school that supports students in under-resourced areas.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would definitely say to just truly be yourself. I know that for a lot of my projects and everything, it is primarily a male-dominated field, but my portfolio colors and everything are pink and brown, you know, and those things that you are like, no, I don't want to be too much. I think I was very worried about that, definitely coming into school and definitely going into my work, of being too much or being too girly. But not really thinking about that aspect of it, and just being yourself, that will fit into your professional field, and quite the opposite, it'll actually make you stand out. I know for my presentations, I'll wear a pink suit, and people appreciate it, and it's just something you don't really think is okay or normal, or you don't usually see, but it's okay to be different, and it's okay to be yourself.
