About Brittany
Brittany Jones brings 23 years of experience in accounting across all industries. She began college studying nursing but switched to accounting after an anatomy and physiology class revealed her discomfort with bodily fluids and her natural aptitude for numbers. As a consultant, she enjoys helping businesses resolve financial messes created by others. Brittany is working to launch her own business, BG Financial Services, and is pursuing her CPA license. She attributes her success to her parents' emphasis on self-reliance, education, and pursuing opportunities beyond her small town, values reinforced by her LDS upbringing. Family remains her top priority, and she values honesty and integrity in the workplace, having left positions that required unethical actions. Outside of work, she supports the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in memory of her brother.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Brittany
01What do you attribute your success to?
My parents, especially my dad, have always driven us to be self-driven. I was raised LDS, and my parents did not want us to get through life relying on a spouse. Education was not an option, and they made sure we pursued opportunities outside our small town. They've been people to lean on and support me with my kids and life challenges over the years, and I could not have gotten where I am today without my family.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never underestimate yourself or stop learning. The feeling of being unsure or weak in an area is an opportunity to learn and grow, and to take on a new challenge when the opportunity is presented.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Do not get your heart set on one simple thing. Accounting has more fields you can get involved in. Keep your mind open to all options and possibilities. If it's something you get excited about, it's worth it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The challenges are where technology is taking it, finding the right roles and processes to use technology at its fullest. AI is taking over a lot but finding the right balance of using AI while not missing important elements that AI can't catch, like mistakes AI creates. Owners need to understand how financials can help.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family comes first. Work is work but companies should be understanding and supportive of family needs. Honesty and integrity are key - I've left jobs where I was asked to do unethical things.
