About Brittany

Brittany Anderson is a healthcare scheduling, care coordination, and clinical operations professional with nearly 10 years of experience in cardiology, transplant, and OVAD/LVAD. She currently serves as Senior Scheduler at Houston Methodist, supporting complex heart transplant operations as an assistant coordinator. In this role, she manages patient testing and annuals, ensures compliance and documentation, coordinates authorizations and referrals, creates patient itineraries, and facilitates support groups. Anderson began her career in patient access and front desk roles during college. She later worked as an LVAD navigation specialist at CHI St. Luke's, participating in transplant meetings and patient evaluations. She holds an associate's degree in applied science from Remington College, earned in 2019, and is completing a bachelor's degree in healthcare management with a focus on data informatics at Colorado Technical University, where she has made the Dean's List three times. Anderson attributes her success to her passion for patient care and building relationships with patients and families, inspired by her desire to treat others as she would want her own family treated.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brittany

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think I just really enjoy patient care. Like, I want to do well because I want patients to thrive. I really want to see them do well. I've seen the good and the bad in this field, including patients rejecting transplants and passing away, but also seeing them thrive with an LVAD. My brother had cancer before he passed, and the way I would have wanted him treated is how I treat patients. I genuinely care about patient care and building relationships with patients and their families in outpatient settings.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Always shoot for growth. Don't get comfortable. Don't get too complacent where you are. There's always opportunities to grow. Don't ever limit yourself. I want to continue to build my knowledge and not backtrack or stay in the same ways forever.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Just make sure you work hard. As a woman, we always have to push ourselves harder and work a little harder to prove ourselves. Make sure you are setting a standard for yourself. Don't ever let anybody tell you what you can or can't do. Stay true to yourself. Shoot for the stars, don't ever limit yourself. You're way more capable than what you think you're capable of. Once you meet one goal, always shoot for the next.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is that patients can be upset and snap at you because a lot of things are out of your control, like waiting on the transplant list a long time, being moved down for non-compliance with eating habits or appointments, or insurance issues. Many patients don't live in Houston and travel from out of state for this specialized care. You have to be empathetic and sympathetic, understanding it's not personal.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My morals, my family, care, self-respect and dignity. What you put out is what people receive, and perception is everything. Carry yourself to a certain standard and do your work to a certain standard. Doctors notice everything, so always be the best you can be. As a woman, we have to work harder, but we can do our job just as well. Stay true to yourself, don't lose yourself or let anyone change you. My family and daughter are number one.
