Brittany Bianco, CPM, is a Senior Environmental Specialist with more than a decade of experience in transportation and environmental compliance. Her career began unexpectedly after college when an opportunity with a state Department of Transportation in Ohio introduced her to the field. With a background in environmental studies, she was drawn to the role by the chance to make a meaningful difference—helping mitigate environmental impacts and contributing to responsible infrastructure development. What started as a practical career move quickly evolved into a long-term passion for balancing progress with environmental stewardship.

Today, Brittany specializes in NEPA documentation for transportation and construction projects, working closely with state and local agencies to ensure regulatory compliance and thoughtful evaluation of environmental impacts. Her work includes writing and reviewing technical documents, assessing how projects affect natural and community resources, and helping guide decision-making processes. She is particularly proud of her contributions to statewide policy updates that have improved efficiency while maintaining the integrity of environmental protections—demonstrating her ability to influence systems at a broader level.

Beyond the technical aspects of her role, Brittany finds the greatest fulfillment in community engagement. She values being a trusted voice for the public, listening to concerns, and helping individuals and communities navigate change with clarity and confidence. Known for her commitment to continuous growth and making a tangible impact, she approaches her work with both expertise and empathy. Through her leadership and dedication, Brittany continues to bridge the gap between environmental responsibility, infrastructure development, and the communities they serve.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being willing to seize opportunities as they come and staying open to new roles, even when they weren’t part of my original plan. Throughout my career, I’ve consistently leaned into growth—whether that meant taking on new responsibilities, relocating, or stepping into unfamiliar areas of the field. At the same time, I’ve always kept my focus on making a meaningful difference. That combination of adaptability, curiosity, and purpose has allowed me to continue learning and evolving in my career.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is simple but important: not everyone is going to like you, and that’s okay. It’s essential to feel confident taking up space, speaking your mind, and standing behind your decisions. In this field, you may sometimes be seen as the “villain” for making tough or necessary calls, especially when balancing competing priorities. But those moments are often where leadership truly shows. Stay grounded in your values, trust your expertise, and don’t let the fear of being disliked hold you back from doing what’s right.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in this field is that it remains fairly male-dominated, which can sometimes make it harder to navigate leadership spaces or have your voice fully heard. Additionally, public engagement can be complex, as we’re often working with communities that may be resistant to change or have valid concerns that need to be addressed thoughtfully. On the other hand, there are significant opportunities—especially in improving and streamlining policies and processes to make our work more efficient and impactful. There’s also a lot of room for professional growth, particularly for those willing to keep learning and step into leadership roles.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that matter most to me are making a difference, serving others, and continuing to grow. I take pride in being able to engage with the public, listen to concerns, and help people feel heard and informed. That sense of service is central to both my work and personal life. At the same time, I believe in never becoming stagnant—there is always something new to learn, and growth is a continuous process. Staying curious, adaptable, and purpose-driven is what keeps me motivated every day.
